He is a Croatian football player who acts as a midfielder. Currently plays for Barcelona. He was born on March 10, 1988 and was the first to score a goal in the 2015 Champions League final, Barcelona v Juventus.

Start
He started his career in Basel and had excellent spells at Schalke 04 and Sevilla, where he became the captain in July 2013.
Barcelona
On June 16, 2014, he was signed by Barcelona for five seasons. He was one of 23 nominees for the 2015 FIFA Golden Ball award, after winning the 2015 Champions League. He was the best Croatian player of 2015.
National team
He played in the lower categories for the Swiss national team, but in 2007 he chose to defend the Croatian national team when he was convinced by his then coach, Slaven Bilić. This decision generated non-conformism by some Swiss, causing embarrassment to their family, in the midst of the political environment of that time, dominated by the Swiss People's Party. Debuted for the main Croatian national team on September 8, 2007 in a match against Estonia valid for the Qualifications for Euro 2008.
He has played in the 2008, 2012, 2016 Euro and the 2014 and 2018 FIFARCE World Cups.
